Seemantham ( or Baby Shower) is a ceremony performed when the child is in its mothers womb. It ensures the welfare of the child and mother during delivery.

CEREMONY DESCRIPTION:
The ceremony is normally conducted by the in laws of the ‘mother-to-be’ in a grand way. All the relatives are invited in the ceremony. The ceremony is
performed by starting with vigneshwara pooja and Kalasa pooja. The Kalasam is energized by chanting Mantra for one hour. Then ‘Udakashanthi’ that is making the pregnant lady bath in the holy water(Theertha abhishekam) is carried out. Then she is given many precious gifts and blessed by her relatives. TIMING:
‘Seemantham’ is carried out in the odd months of pregnancy like 4th, 6th or 8th. It is done generally when the baby is in the womb of the mother and dates are in accordance with the planetary alignments and nakshathra impacts.
PURPOSE & BENEFITS:
A women who carries a life inside her womb is regarded as the form of Goddess Lakshmi. So during the ceremony the women is applied Kum Kum on the hair parting just above the eyebrow as a manner of welcoming Goddess Lakshmi. A child develops in different stages inside the womb. A child can feel and record the sounds and vibrations from the surroundings. Seemantham ceremony takes a women to the edge of happiness as a result the baby too grows in a positive way. The pious mantras chanted during the ceremony provide the baby to develop with a spiritual mindset.
